Jaipur soon to have a Desert Park

Jaipurites and Tourists will not have to travel outside to see sand dunes as a desert park will soon be developed in the city outskirts.

Desert Park, a joint project by the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) and forest department, has received a green signal from the state government. The park will be developed on 48 hectares of land in Kishanbagh. In Stage 1, the JDA will develop 10 hectares of land after spending Rs 8 crore.In order to promote and raise tourism, the park will be operated by the JDA, while forest department would provide its expertise in maintaining the natural environment. The development of the area will be carried out without disturbing the topography of the surrounding area.

As per the plan, an official said, the JDA will also develop a resort and museum where culture of Rajasthan will be displayed. “The development of the area will be carried out in different stages.

In second stage, the JDA would develop 20 hectares and remaining 18 hectares will be taken in the last stage. The work to develop second stage will be initiated after two years,“ an official said. The park will represent a unique desert eco-system. “We will develop natural vegetation in the park like that of Thar Desert which would include trees, shrubs and species of herbs. Seeds and sand will be brought from Jaisalmer to develop flora in the park,“ he added.
The park falls in the Vidhyadhar Nagar region, which is nearly 15 km away from the main city.
