8 Gates of Jaipur

The architecture of Pink city- Jaipur is based on Vastu Shastra and Shilp Shastra. In 1727 construction started by the architect, Vidhydhar Bhattacharya, which took around 4 years to build major lanes, building and palaces of the city. When the king decided to shift his capital from Amer to Jaipur, these 8 gates were built.

Out of 8 gates 6 were kept for common people and 2 for his kingdom. Gates were built in order to safeguard the kingdom from the enemies, during the war these gates were closed so that enemies could not enter in to the pink city.
